Expert Door Fitting

External Door Fitters in Farnham

We fit external doors on all property types across Farnham, from period timber replacements to composite front doors on modern homes. If you need a straight answer on whether your frame is worth keeping and a door fitted correctly from the start, that is what we do.

External Doors We Fit in Farnham

Timber doors are a more common choice in Farnham than almost anywhere else we cover. A lot of the properties here suit a solid timber front door far better than composite, and we fit both. We also fit half-glazed back doors, stable doors and French doors. On period properties where the opening is non-standard, we will tell you early whether a stock size will work or whether the door needs to be made to measure.

Front Doors

Strong, secure and the first thing anyone sees. We fit front doors on all property types, from straightforward replacements to non-standard openings where the frame needs attention first.

Timber Front Doors

A natural choice for period properties and homes where composite does not suit the look. We fit solid timber front doors and advise on sizes whether stock or made to measure.

Composite / uPVC Doors

Low maintenance, weather resistant and available in a wide range of styles. The most common choice for front door replacements across the areas we cover.

French Doors

Two-door sets that open outward and work well at the back of a property where you want more light and access to the garden. We fit and align both leaves so they close and lock cleanly.

Patio Doors

liding or hinged rear doors that open up a room without needing swing space. We check the frame and threshold carefully on these as the weight and movement puts more demand on the fitting.

Other External Doors

Not seeing your door type here? We fit stable doors, side access doors, bi-fold doors and more. If you are not sure what you need, tell us what you have and we will advise.

External Door Fitting in Farnham

Frames that have been painted over dozens of times, thresholds that have dropped with the floor, openings that were never square to begin with. We work through all of it before measuring. Once we know what we are dealing with, we fit the door to the opening as it actually is, not as it should be on paper. The weatherstrip is set, the threshold is sealed and the hardware is fitted and tested.

Trusted External Door Fitters in Farnham

Farnham is the kind of town where people care about how their property looks and are rightly cautious about who they let work on it. A lot of the homes here are Georgian, Victorian or Edwardian and the doors on those properties are not a standard catalogue job. We have fitted doors on properties in Farnham where the opening was wider at the top than the bottom, where the reveal depth was deeper than any modern door frame accounts for, and where the existing timber frame was sound but needed careful work to accept a new door without damaging the surrounding stonework or render. That kind of job requires attention, not speed. We take the time to assess it correctly, tell you what is involved and price it honestly. We arrive when agreed and leave the entrance looking better than we found it.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Getting Started

My Farnham property is a Victorian terrace. The current front door is timber and I want to keep it that way. Can you source and fit a timber replacement?
Yes. We fit solid timber doors regularly on period properties across Farnham. If the opening is a standard size, there are good options available from stock. If it is non-standard, which is common on Victorian terraces, a made-to-measure door is the right route. We measure the opening accurately and tell you what is available before anything is ordered.
The reveal on my front door is much deeper than on modern houses. Does that affect the fitting?
It does and it is something we check on every period property. A deeper reveal affects how the frame and door stop sit and needs to be accounted for during the fit. It is not a reason the job cannot be done, but it is a reason to measure carefully rather than assume standard dimensions apply.
My property is in Farnham town centre. Do I need permission to change the front door?
Farnham town centre includes a conservation area covering a significant number of properties. If your property falls within it, there may be restrictions on materials, glazing or style. Surrey Heath Borough Council can confirm whether your address is affected. We have worked on properties in the conservation area before and can advise on what tends to be acceptable, but the formal check needs to come from the council.
The floor inside my front door has dropped slightly over the years and there is now a gap under the door. Can that be fixed when fitting a new door?
Yes. We adjust the threshold during the fit to account for floor level changes. A new threshold seal set to the correct height will close that gap. It is one of the things we look at specifically on older properties where floors have moved over time.
What is the difference between a multipoint lock and the type of lock my old timber door has?
Older timber doors often have a single mortice deadbolt, sometimes with a separate nightlatch. A multipoint system replaces both with a single mechanism that engages at several points along the door edge when you lift the handle. It is more secure, simpler to operate and what most insurers now require on a front door. We fit multipoint locks as standard on all external door installations.
Period properties in Farnham seem to vary a lot. How do you price a job when every property is different?
We price based on what we find. The door type, the frame condition, whether the opening needs adjustment and whether there is any additional work on the threshold or surrounding structure. We do not give a price until we have seen the job because on period properties a price given blind is rarely accurate. Once we have assessed it, the quote is fixed.
